Gazelles Running

eyes dart back and forth
looking for true north
compasses cannot tell
only where the axis fell
the magnetic axis
whose movement never cease
hot, fluid rocks in the earth's core
flow under our feet forever more
solid ground always renewing

maps become outdated
confusion is not abated
shifts in the rocks, cracks in the land
no one can really stand
the earth always shakes
no stillness on the lakes
the eagle hovers, seeing nothing
but the wind god roughly breathing
nothing ever stops circling around

Old Faithful eternally bursts
pressure will keep pushing upward
as gravity presses forward
from another point on the planet
this work is not a sonnet
that is an obsolete form
easily destroyed in a storm
new blood must be infused
people again will be enthused

no more fatigue and lethargy
the sun is now dawning
the gazelles are running
away from the wild cats of prey
out of danger they will stay
the wild cats will soon tire
for there's no more fuel for their fire
when the gazelles cross the line
where they will always be fine
