Toil and Blessings

The bright light of our own star
Pierced through the deepest depths of me
I thought I was thick as an iron steel wall
But the slowly gathering heat
So slow that I not even notice
Melted my silver steel armor
And bare my vulnerable body naked
I broke down crying because all my scars
Bled again as my blood boiled over
Then, the fresh rain showers of April
Poured over me and cleansed me through
I am now very refreshed, rejuvenated
My exhaustion all washed away
As it all seeps into the earth
Disappearing deep into the ground
I am praying for protection
A mighty shield that will bar
Harm away from my path
A seed of hope fell through my heart
From my spirit which I thought was gone
The universe gave me gifts that I thought
I did not deserve but now I fully understand
That I am its child as every tiny atom is
And it will forever continue on giving
My delights are not for me alone anymore
As my wounds are no longer mine to hold
I am to share something bigger than me
Something so enormous, it envelopes the world
And so powerful, it penetrates every human heart
I was so selfish then and so frightened
That I could not open my eyes
To the wondrous mireacles of life
I've almost given up, ready to die
But my soul did not give up on me
And I am grateful that it never will
I promise never to forget myself,
My life, my joy, my pain and
All the people who loved me
And will forever keep me safe
In their great hearts. When the day
I die dawns from the east,
I shall greet it with exultation
Of a mother who just gave birth
To her firstborn child
As my life has been a great joy
To live all these years
Of toil and blessing

Untitled Poem

Little details popped out
Into my bland little world
That only had grey and blue hues
Nothing in my desolate sea
Nothing at all, my lady
Then, little by little,
Minute by minute,
Something began to take shape
From a formless mulch of matter
To beautiful structures of molecules
Something, my lady,
Something you could finally discern
What a sight it is to behold
What a truly marvelous sight
