My Spirit, An Eagle

a risky ride this life
at my back, a shadow sticks a knife
nightmare encroaches my sleep
I have no choice but to leap

I cannot cower in the shadows
I must dash for the meadows
where I cannot hide
through the tall grass, I glide

the falcon soars above
beside me is a bear and her cub
with them I courageously stand
and scope the land

the land is mine
the great sun shall above shine
the giants have fleed
and myself I lead

no time to give it second thought
my freedom I have already bought
I am a giant in God's eyes
my spirit, an eagle flies

The Great Spire

the great spire
arises in the horizon
the shadows also aspire

looking into the dawn
seeing morning light
a day has been drawn

the birds take flight
and soar into the heavens
the sun restores my sight

men open up their havens
for sojourners who tire
and the scale evens

a torch is set on fire
a pillar it sits upon
eyes look on higher

it taunts, it calls

the place of rest
becomes a realm of craziness
the once calm and serene
turns into a whirlwind
what i understood before
transforms into an enigma
the things i knew then
mutate to alien objects

these familiar streets
become a huge labyrinth
a map i memorized
altered into a new one
the route straight home
evolves into a strange path
a huge discovery
becomes a disastrous realization

the past becomes a dream
new nightmares arise with old ones
the future gets daunting
the present gets real scary
it taunts me, it calls me
"come, my dear, come"
ignoring it with all my might

A THOUGHT TO INSCRIBE

the minutes tick-tock away
I idled the day away

I scramble through the pages
in haste of unlocking cages

the return of my muse I await
I try to sketch a trait

the misery of failure haunts
the whisper of success daunts

a blank page beckons
in my head marches a string of icons

I escape in fantasy
maybe also blasphemy

I need to inscribe a thought
an idea I long so sought

but in an instant, it sprints out
my own speed I have to doubt

will I never find
will I forever be blind

will I never hear thee
will you always flee

you may never take refuge here
but there really is nothing to fear

I will not mar you
I will immortalize you

will you come to me
so I can free thee

GREEN-EYED MONSTER

the large green-eyed monster
is clawing away at my heels
stealing away my laughter
that I know heals

an attempt to reclaim the joy
is delayed by pains and aches
the consequence of his big ploy
I try to shed them with big shakes

but it just sticks
with a very heavy paste
it is walled with plenty of bricks
my haste is really in waste

I'm trying to think clearly
but the world has just me dumbfounded
saneness comes out barely
my madness is still bounded

the peace that is mine
the ogre of a monster carried away
the sweet grapes on the vine
he has eaten all in one day

what I try to savor little at a time
he greedily takes all at once
he takes my only dime
that I cannot get back, given a chance

I need a razor-sharp sword
to carve out the ugly beast's heart
squandering time I can no longer afford
for this is the moment to recover my part

Adulthood

adulthood is upon me
can no longer be
carefree, without worries

still believing in fairies
and hope a child carries
delighthing in the sun

a man, a woman
baking a tan
lying motionless

wearing a dress
cannot be careless
must be prim and proper

I can no longer bear
such a serious matter
can you leave me be?

A Coffe Shop Poem

the coffee shop is filled
with people enjoying coffee
taking in the sounds
making their rounds
drinking in the city's life
the espresso machine whirring
flavor and steam into cups
people from around the world
sit and sip out of cups
a stimulating and addicting brew
that keeps the whole world awake
in a neverending frenzy of nonsense
that makes this a wonderful planet
each one has their own unique song
each one is an original idea
with a unique history behind it
this is such a happening spot
it is so difficult to leave
