The Duel

holding the sword in front of me
it blazes in shining majesty
I point it at my enemy
and dash forward to meet him
our swords clash
and reflected light blinds us
I back away for a moment
then I hit for his chest
he blocks it away with his fiery sword
he goes for my head
I raise my sword against it
I then go for his stomach
he quickly diverts my sword
I spin around to strike his arm
but he saw me and struck
my sword, he goes for my leg
I jump and strike for his head
but he moved away swiftly
and dashed forward again
this duel had to end somehow
so, with all my might
I pushed him to the ground
and slit his throat

Fading Nightmare

the stain is now just a lingering memory
all that remains is a fading nightmare
the haunting demons knock at the door
the flood comes through the walls
welcome the cleansing water
where all the demons will be wiped away
with the dust of the ancient age
and the scrupulous waste of the present
when the water recedes
new buds will sprout up
from which was a wasteland before
new life will thrive and flourish
where they could not survive before
the demons will drown
all that will remain are skeletons
and rotting flesh vultures feast on

Silent Salute

the death of one man
has no relevance in this world
he is a mere mortal, nothing special
men like him die everyday
he is not a hero to them
but he is to his children
a hero's burial they will give him
the world will know finally
who he really is
in a silent 21 gun salute

From My Cup

Shifting colors, shifting paradigms
Show me a world that only changes
Nothing is ever constant
Nothing ever stands still
Things remain the same
Things appear anchored down
Not to move out of their place
But an ant pushes a leaf away
A bird pecks the sidewalk clean
Free of bread crumbs tossed by children
People pass me by on their walk
To where, I have no inkling of
I sit here drinking my cappucino
Enjoying milk and sugar in my hot cup
I know not of stillness or silence
But of frenetic activity all about
Revitalizing me along with the caffeine
I sip from my cup

Adamantly Inflexible

adamantly inflexible
unwilling to bend
forward or backward
to reach out
for the barely unreachable
the apple and the pear is right there
a tiptoe away
but still does not want to extend a hand
why should I strain myself
for something that would fall
right onto my palms eventually
why should I struggle
when the wind would blow it away
with the falling autumn leaves
why can't I just stand still
here under the tree
where I am shaded from the sun
and sheltered from the rain
there's a whole world out there
everything laying bare
but remain I stand
under the tree
not moving an inch
no more trace of fear in me
but my pride is stubborn
I am proud of my stubbornness
resisting change
decay begins to set in
I am growing old too soon
